In order to ensure safety and security of drone traffic across Europe on 24/05/19 the European Commission adopted a comprehensive framework of EU rules that will apply to both professional and leisure drones, thus replacing the existing national rules on the matter.
“The EU will now have the most advanced rules worldwide. This will pave the way for safe, secure and green drone flights. It also provides the much needed clarity for the business sector and for drone innovators Europe-wide“, said Violeta Bulc, Commissioner for Transport.
Through operators’ registration, remote identification and definition of geographical zones, all national authorities will have means to prevent misuse or unlawful drone activities.
This critical advancement in harmionization of EU Member States’ legislation follows the adoption of common technical requirements for drones, promoted by the Commission in the scope of the larger Commission’s Aviation Strategy. The European Commission and EASA will soon publish guidelines and “standard scenarios” for drone operations enabling the development of an institutional, regulatory and architectural framework for complex drone operations with a high degree of automation.
