The International Workshop “New technologies and innovative approaches for the safety and protection of public spaces through the use of drones” held in Turin from the 2nd to 3rd of December 2019 was successfully concluded. The event was organized thanks to the commitment and the contribution of the “drones unit” of the local police and the Municipality of Turin together with the patronage of SAFE on the second day.
The workshop was attended by over 60 experts from different European countries, representing both the private and public sectors; thus, providing industry, academia and law enforcement officers with a unique opportunity to debate and discuss. The event focused on issues related to the use of drones in the police field as well as their possible interactions with advanced sensors to ensure more effective monitoring and protection of public spaces.
Andrea D’Angelo, president of SAFE, illustrated the potential of “SMARTMAPS” as well as illustrated the funding opportunities coming from the ISF and Horizon2020 programmes, connected to the use of drones in urban areas.
From the conference emerged how the use of drones can be an advantage for the safety and protection of citizens both through the tactical application, meaning activation in response to a relevant event, and through the constant monitoring of urban areas as further support to public security authorities.
Once again, in collaboration with the City of Turin, SAFE has been a promoter of initiatives aimed at bringing together international security actors in order to foster the growth of solid synergies that lead the public sector to collaborate with private organizations to enhance possible solutions joint efforts for greater common security.
