In the last weeks, SAFE promoted TRANSTUN and CoE P73 projects in two important international conferences held in France, respectively in Lyon and Chamonix.

SAFE Key Expert Mr. Bouquot participated at the “Global Congress on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats” organized by INTERPOL from the 28th to the 31st of October 2019 in Lyon, France. This congress saw the participation of several stakeholders’ networks, contributing with concrete case studies among CBRN actors (military, law enforcement, academia, international organizations, etc.) and presented the diverse CBRN threats and how to tackle them.

In the four days conference Mr. Bouquot, presented the EU cooperation with Lebanon in CBRN matters, with an emphasis on the P73 project. Mr. Bouquot intervention was highly appreciated, bringing expertise and experience, broadening the dialogue amongst stakeholders and providing support to the global effort to address the increasing threat of chemical and explosives terrorism to global peace and security.

Furthermore, SAFE’s Junior Associate, Alessandro D’Autillio, presented the project TRANSTUN at the 5th Annual Conference on “Innovation in Tunnels – Construction, Maintenance, Safety & Fire Protection”, organized by EnigmaCG in Chamonix, France the 14th of November.

The conference focused on several aspects of security and safety in both transnational and national tunnels., SAFE’s presentation focused on the following aspects:

  • The EU supports the protection of Critical Infrastructures. Trans-border tunnels as priority ECI (European Critical Infrastructures) facilities;
  • Prevention and response to chemical events in tunnels – a crucial area of focus for operators and first responders. Towards an harmonization of processes and equipment for personal protection;
  • The creation of a network of European Tunnel Security Officers, sponsored by TRANSTUN project. Exchange on concrete needs, opportunities and lessons learned.

At the conference participated speakers from over 15 Countries, both from the EU and not, and saw the attendance of more than 70 tunnel professional and first responders. The participants have shown interest in the project considering it very relevant to enhance tunnel security in the EU.
